Rituals

Rituals

A few years ago, I read a story about a dad who did “daddy–daughter dates” every week.

Each time, his daughter would choose a restaurant, plan the route, and they’d take public transport there together. She was in charge of the schedule, and he simply showed up – fully present.

That story stayed with me.

So I decided to create my own version with Annabelle.

Every Sunday, we get in the car with Jasper, our dog, and drive somewhere at least an hour away.

There’s no set plan – we take turns choosing the music, sometimes talk about school, friendships, or big life questions… and sometimes we just drive in silence.

It’s not really about the destination.

It’s about the space in between – the ritual of slowing down, being together, and remembering that connection doesn’t need to be structured or productive.

Over time, it’s become something we both look forward to – a weekly reset, a moment to just be.

I think every family has their own version of this – big or small – something that anchors them back to what really matters.

Last week, we were lucky enough to capture the magical moment the light broke through the clouds.

What are your rituals as a family?

What moments have become sacred in your week – even if they started by accident?
